The Best Breakfast Burritos in Venice

Venice's two are separated by five hundredths of a point and by about as much distance in spirit as two burritos can manage.

Great White on Pacific makes the better one, and the tortilla is the reason: toasted until it flakes, wrapped around eggs buttery enough to read as their own dish, with chives and scallions doing more than garnish work. It runs small for eighteen dollars and it could stand more bacon.

Then there's Erewhon, where the breakfast burrito is, and I did not expect to write this, one of the more sensibly priced things in the building — $18.50 at a store where the avocado toast is priced as though each avocado attended therapy.

Great White, Venice's relaxed all-day cafe celebrated for fresh, local fare, immediately impresses with its breakfast burrito. The first bite introduces an exceptionally toasted, flaky tortilla enveloping immaculately fluffy, buttery scrambled eggs. Crispy bacon and the subtle freshness of chives and scallions further enhance each satisfying mouthful. While the tater tots, though tasty, fall short in crispness and the Oaxaca cheese adds little distinction, the accompanying salsa delivers a delightful, mildly spicy accent. The ratios are almost excellently balanced, though a touch more bacon would elevate it further. Overall, it's a remarkably pleasing morning indulgence.
