Taqueria Nopal, a humble truck parked on Magnolia outside the North Hollywood Rec Center, serves the kind of breakfast burrito that feels almost anachronistic in 2026: big, delicious, and priced like we somehow wandered back into 2018. Whenever I see a steak breakfast burrito, I go for it. They’re a relatively rare offering, so the asada was an easy choice here. It delivered. Fried cheese, tater tots, egg, and an almost comical amount of steak are packed into a burrito with serious heft. I haven't seen this much food crammed into a tortilla since Chipotle in 2006. For perhaps the first time in my breakfast burrito career, I was too full to finish the final bite. More importantly, the ratios are excellent. Every component gets its turn, and all three accompanying salsas are worthy, with the smoky, fiery chile de árbol stealing the show. The only knocks are a fair amount of grease and steak that occasionally veers chewy. Minor complaints for a burrito this satisfying, especially at a price that feels increasingly rare in Los Angeles.
